Scotland Juneteenth 5K
The Scotland Juneteenth 5K is a community running event held in Potomac, Maryland. The course traverses the historic Black neighborhood of Scotland, providing runners with a route that passes significant local landmarks. A notable feature of the course is the 100-year-old Scotland AME Zion Church located on 7 Locks Road.
The event serves as a fundraiser to support the rebuilding of the Scotland AME Zion Church. The historic structure sustained significant damage due to flooding in 2019 and requires a complete rebuild. Participants contribute to these restoration efforts through their registration and participation in the races.
The event offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 5K race
- 1 Mile family run
The race begins at Bells Mill Elementary, located at 8225 Bells Mill Road. Registration for the distances opens in early March, with different closing dates and entry fees applied to each category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
