About the race
Girls on the Run Northern Virginia holds a season-closing celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event emphasizes completion and the confidence gained by crossing the finish line.
The 5K for the Fall season is scheduled for November 22 at Pentagon City - Grace Hopper Murray Memorial Park (1401 S. Joyce Street, Arlington, VA). Program participants are automatically registered and receive a commemorative medal. There is a deadline to request a 5K t-shirt for those who register by September 30. Registration remains open as space allows and fee tiers change by date.
The event is non competitive and untimed; the course distance is 3.1 miles. Participants may walk, run, push, roll, or skip at their own pace. The 5K course is accessible for people with disabilities and strollers are permitted, with stroller users asked to start in the last corral.
A Buddy Runner is an individual who completes the 5K alongside a program participant to provide safety and encouragement for the full course. Family, friends, and community members may also join as registered participants. Volunteers support many roles such as packet pick up, water stations, course marshals, start and finish line duties, activity stations, medical tent assistance, bike marshals, and team packing.
