About the race
The event is a season-ending celebratory 5K held on November 22 at Pentagon City - Grace Hopper Murray Memorial Park in Arlington, VA. It serves as the closing event for program participants and provides a tangible sense of accomplishment; every program participant receives a commemorative medal.
Registration is available with tiered pricing: Early Bird $35 (Aug 17 - Sep 30), Regular $40 (Oct 1 - 31), Late $45 (Nov 1 - 21), and Day of $50 (Nov 22). Program participants are automatically registered and do not need to register separately. Registration remains open as space allows. A 5K t-shirt is available for those who register by September 30.
The 5K course is 3.1 miles and the event is non-competitive and untimed; participants often finish in about 30 to 50 minutes. The event is accessible to people with disabilities and accommodates walkers, runners, rollers and strollers. Participants using strollers are asked to start from the last corral.
The event uses Buddy Runners - individuals who complete the 5K alongside a program participant to provide safety and encouragement. Packet pick-up arrangements vary by registration date. Volunteers support many tasks, including packet distribution, start and finish-line duties, water stations, course marshaling, activity stations, bike marshals and medical tent support; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
Merchandise and local or national sponsors are present at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
