5K Celebration
Each Girls on the Run Northeast Tennessee season concludes with a celebratory 5K event. The course length is 3.1 miles and takes place at East Tennessee State University, with the pre-event area and start/finish located on the intramural fields beside the Center for Physical Activity. Parking is available at the Campus Parking Garage, 1043 Jack Vest Drive, Johnson City.
The event is presented as a non-competitive celebration of participants and their season-long progress. Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a medal, an event t shirt, and a race bib. The council provides a running buddy for each participant; a running buddy is an individual who accompanies a participant for the entire course. The event is designed to be accessible so that people can walk, run, push, or roll at their own pace, and designated accessible parking is available.
Registration details note a pre-registration price of $30 and a day-of registration price of $35 for non-program participants; program participants and coaches are already registered. All registrations include a liability waiver. Merchandise and various on-site activities are part of the event, and proceeds support needs-based scholarships. The council recruits a large volunteer team for setup, course marshaling, running buddies, water and cheer stations, and other event roles.
