Girls on the Run Northeast Tennessee 5K Celebration
The Girls on the Run Northeast Tennessee 5K is the season-closing event for the council’s program. The celebratory 5K gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment; every registered participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal, event t-shirt, and a 5K bib. The event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 14 and will be held at East Tennessee State University, with parking at the Campus Parking Garage (1043 Jack Vest Drive) and pre-event activities and the start/finish area on the intramural fields beside the Center for Physical Activity.
The course is presented as accessible for people with disabilities; participants may walk, run, push, or roll at their own pace and designated accessible parking is available. Safety measures include required race bibs, assignment of a running buddy for each participant, course monitoring with head counts, and a council safety plan that trains staff and volunteers to respond to incidents. A running buddy is an adult or volunteer who accompanies a participant for the entire course; parent or guardian running buddies are encouraged.
Registration fees for non-program participants are listed as $30 for pre-registration and $35 for day-of registration. Program participants and coaches are already registered and do not need to register. The event also involves merchandise sales, volunteer roles to support setup and course operations, and proceeds that support need-based scholarships.
