About the race
Girls on the Run Hampton Roads holds a season-closing 5K celebration to give program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The Fall 2026 5K takes place at The Mariners' Museum in Newport News, VA. The event is presented as a fun, noncompetitive experience where participants may walk, run, roll, push, or skip at their own pace on a 5K (3.1 miles) course.
Registered participants who complete the event receive a medal, t-shirt, tote bag, and branded bandana. Program girls and coaches are pre-registered and will find bibs at their team meet-up sign on the morning of the 5K. Other participants can register; early and late registration tiers differ by fee and shirt sizing guarantees. Bib pickup is also available at the J&A Race Expo at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Safety measures include mandatory 5K bibs, designated 5K buddies for GOTR and H&S girls, and course marshals stationed along the route. The event is presented as accessible: designated parking and accommodations allow participants with disabilities to take part. A virtual 5K option is offered to complete the 3.1-mile event at a time and place of the participant’s choosing. Volunteer roles listed for the event include cheer stations, water stop, course marshals, and finish line support. An afterparty for participants includes a live band, food, and drinks.
