Girls on the Run Hampton Roads Spring 5K : 5K Celebration
The event is a closing 5K for Girls on the Run Hampton Roads that marks the end of a season and gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The inaugural Summer Twilight 5K is scheduled at Virginia Wesleyan (Batten) University as a fundraiser for the council.
Registered participants receive a timed bib and event t-shirt; those who complete the 5K are awarded a commemorative medal, a tote bag, and a branded bandana. The event includes a post-race party with a live DJ and food and beverage trucks.
Safety and accessibility measures are in place: every participant must wear a 5K bib, course marshals are stationed along the route, and designated parking spots are available. Girls in the program are paired with a 5K Buddy : a family member or approved individual aged 16 or older who accompanies and supports the participant on the course. The 5K course is presented as accessible for walking, running, pushing, or rolling.
The council offers an in-person 5K and a virtual 5K option, and the event is supported by local and national partners.
