Girls on the Run Greater Richmond 5K
The Girls on the Run Greater Richmond 5K is an end of season celebratory event that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The 5K course is 3.1 miles and is presented as a noncompetitive, inclusive experience where participants may walk, run, roll, push or skip at their own pace. Every registered participant who completes the course receives a bib and a finisher medal or other completion token.
The event takes place at Bryan Park. Free onsite parking and designated accessible parking spots are available. Girls on the Run participants and coaches are automatically registered for the 5K; family, friends and community members may register separately. The council sells event merchandise and offers commemorative t-shirts for registrations made in specified registration windows. All registrations include a liability waiver.
Safety procedures include the requirement to wear a race bib, assignment of running buddies, course monitoring, head counts and a council safety plan for staff and volunteers. Running buddies complete the 5K alongside a participant for the full course; parents and guardians may serve as running buddies.
Volunteer roles support setup, cleanup, day of registration, course marshals, water stations, cheer squads and activity stations such as face painting and happy hair. The event is offered in both site based and virtual formats. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
