Girls on the Run Greater Richmond 5K Celebration
The event is a season closing, celebratory 5K held at Bryan Park on Sunday, November 22. The 5K course is 3.1 miles and is presented as a fun, noncompetitive closing event for Girls on the Run program participants. Crossing the finish line gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment, and every registered participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal or other completion token.
Registration costs are listed as $30 for both the August 12 to October 1 period and the October 2 to November 18 period; registrations made by October 1 include a T shirt. Girls on the Run participants and coaches are automatically registered and do not need to re register. Liability waivers are included with registration.
The event provides onsite free parking and designated accessible parking spots. The course is accessible so participants can walk, run, roll or push at their own pace. For safety, every participant must wear a race bib, the council assigns or allows a designated running buddy for participants, and staff and volunteers monitor the course, conduct head counts, and follow a safety plan. Typical completion times vary; the fastest participants may finish in about 25 minutes while most finish in 30 to 50 minutes.
Additional features at the 5K include merchandise for sale, water stations, face painting and happy hair stations. Volunteers support setup, registration, course marshaling, water stops and activity stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
