5K Celebration
Girls on the Run Greater Richmond holds a season-closing 5K celebration that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event takes place on Sunday, November 22 at Bryan Park.
The course covers 3.1 miles. The 5K is presented as a celebratory, noncompetitive event; typical completion times range from about 25 minutes for the fastest participants to 30–50 minutes for most. Participants may walk, run, roll or push the course at their own pace. Every registered finisher receives a bib and a commemorative medal or other completion token.
Registration fees listed by the council are $30 in the early window (August 12 to October 1, which includes a T-shirt) and $30 in the later window (October 2 to November 18). Girls on the Run participants and coaches are automatically registered; community members and 5K Buddies who want a T-shirt must register by October 1. All registrations include a liability waiver.
The event includes accessibility measures and designated parking spots. Free onsite parking is available. For safety, participants wear race bibs, are paired with running buddies, and the council uses head counts and a safety plan staffed by trained volunteers. Additional activities at the event can include water stations, face painting, happy hair stations and merchandise sales.
