Girls on the Run Great Lakes Bay 5K
This annual 5K and Reindeer Run benefits Girls on the Run Great Lakes Bay and is presented by Jolt Credit Union. The event features a closed-road 5K (3.1 miles) loop through downtown Saginaw ahead of the Holiday Parade, with start and finish at the Andersen Enrichment Center and registration and festivities at the YMCA of Saginaw. Participants receive reindeer antlers and a commemorative finisher medal; these items are guaranteed for those registered by October 31. Fall 2026 program participants and coaches are automatically registered.
The event includes music from High Fidelity Entertainment, on-site amenities such as hot chocolate and a winter market at the Downtown Saginaw Farmer's Market, and indoor displays at the Andersen Enrichment Center. A portion of the course travels over gravel. The event is presented as family friendly; strollers are permitted and designated accessible parking is available. No pets on leashes are allowed.
Safety measures include bibs for all participants, a running buddy system, course monitoring and head counts, and a council safety plan for staff and volunteers. Liability waivers are part of registration. Volunteers support tasks such as set-up and tear down, registration, course marshalling, running buddies, water and cheer stations, and activity stations; running buddy volunteers appointed through the council undergo background checks.
