Northern 5K Celebration
The Northern 5K Celebration is the season closing event for Girls on the Run Delaware. The event centers on a 5K road course that measures 3.1 miles and gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every program participant receives a commemorative medal.
The event takes place at Del Tech, Terry Campus in Dover, DE on Sunday, November 22, 2026. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the council and do not need to register again. General registration fees listed for the event are $25 for participants ages nine and above and $5 for participants eight and under.
Safety and accessibility are part of the event plan. Every participant must wear a race bib, each participant is paired with a running buddy for the full course, and the council maintains a safety plan with trained staff and volunteers. The 5K course is accessible for people with disabilities; participants can walk, run, push, or roll, and designated parking is available.
The event includes additional elements beyond the course such as music, dancing, happy hair stations, merchandise sales, and a GOTR village. Volunteer roles supporting the celebration include set-up and break down, registration, course marshals, water stations, cheer stations, and festival stations; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
