Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival
The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival is staged at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia over a two-day weekend in late September 2026. The event features Olympic and Sprint triathlon distances, as well as aquabike and relay options, with courses run largely inside the state park.
The swim starts from a sandy beach in a time trial format on a rectangular course with two right turns. Sighting buoys are placed about every 75 meters and the water at this section of the lake typically registers in the low 70s Fahrenheit. Water quality is monitored; if tests indicate unsafe conditions the swim will be canceled.
The bike courses use rural country roads with rolling hills and good pavement. The Olympic bike is a lollipop-style 24.6 mile route and the Sprint bike is 15.5 miles. The run courses are asphalt, heavily shaded, and include an initial climb out of transition followed by flatter sections and a downhill into the finishing chute.
Race categories include Overall, Masters Overall, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, Collegiate and Relay Teams. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and athletes must hold a current USAT membership or purchase a one-day license. Event packet pickup is handled at the race site and participants must present photo identification to collect materials. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
