Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival
The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival is a two day event held at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia on September 26 and 27, 2026. Races are staged from a sandy beach with a time trial swim start and use the park and surrounding county roads for the bike and run courses. Water at the swim site typically registers in the low 70s Fahrenheit and the organizers test water quality; if water is unsafe the swim will be cancelled.
The venue includes banked, stadium style seating that overlooks the swim course, run course and finish area. The run course is shaded and entirely on asphalt and the bike routes use rural country roads with varied elevation. Packet pickup is available at the race site; participants must collect their own packets and present photo identification.
The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned and serves as the Virginia State Championships for both sprint and Olympic distances, with qualifying slots for age group national championships. Registration perks and race services listed by the organizers include an event long sleeve tech shirt, custom race socks, finisher medal, timed results, age group awards, post race meal and free finish line photos.
Distances and event options include:
- Olympic: 1.5K swim, 24.6 mile bike, 10K run
- Sprint: 750 m swim, 15.5 mile bike, 5K run
Additional formats offered include aquabike and relay entries. The park offers miles of trails, a playground, a swimming beach and a visitors center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
