Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival
The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival is a multi-day sports event held at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia. The festival features various competitions including triathlons, aquabike categories, and relay options. All races are USA Triathlon sanctioned events and utilize a time trial start from a sandy beach.
The swim takes place in the freshwater of Lake Anna, where the water temperature typically averages in the low 70s during late September. The bike courses consist of rolling country roads with varied terrain on asphalt. The run courses are situated entirely within the state park on shaded asphalt paths. The venue features stadium-style seating for spectators to view the swim, run, and finish line.
Available race distances and formats include:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 24.6 mile bike, and 10 km run.
- Olympic Aquabike: 1.5 km swim and 24.6 mile bike.
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 meter swim, 15.5 mile bike, and 5 km run.
- Sprint Aquabike: 750 meter swim and 15.5 mile bike.
Participants have the option to compete on both days through a "Do the Double" registration. The park facilities include a swimming beach, a playground, and several miles of trails. All finishers receive a medal, custom socks, and a race shirt. Post-race refreshments are provided for athletes at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
