Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival
The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival takes place at Lake Anna State Park in Lake Anna, Virginia on September 25 and 26, 2027. The event offers Olympic and Sprint triathlon distances and aquabike options staged from the park beach and finishes inside the park venue.
Distances
- Olympic: 1.5K swim, 24.6 mile bike, 10K run
- Sprint: 750 m swim, 15.5 mile bike, 5K run
The swim starts from a sandy beach in a time trial format and follows a rectangular course with two right turns; sighting buoys are placed about every 75 meters. Water at the swim location typically registers in the low 70s Fahrenheit and organizers take and post a temperature reading the Thursday before the event. Portions of Lake Anna can experience harmful algal blooms; water quality is tested and the swim will be canceled if unsafe.
Both bike courses are lollipop style and use rural county roads with varied elevation. The Olympic bike route is 24.6 miles with roughly 932 feet of elevation gain; the Sprint bike is 15.5 miles with about 565 feet. Run courses are paved, shaded, and contained within the state park; the route begins with a climb out of transition, includes a downhill toward the finish, and finishes by veering into a chute.
The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned. Race categories include Overall, Masters, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, Collegiate and Relay teams. Packet pickup occurs at the race site and participants must present photo identification to collect their packet.
