Event overview
The Ghost Town Trail Challenge is an endurance hike/run held in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania on June 20, 2026. The event follows the full length of the Ghost Town Trail from Black Lick to Ebensburg and is presented by the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority. The 32-mile route is described as a continuous elevation gain of about 1000 ft over the full distance, with the steepest section between mile 19 and mile 22. All distances finish at the Young People’s Community Center in Ebensburg.
Distances and course
- 50k / 32 miles - full challenge from Saylor Park (Blairsville) to Ebensburg
- 25k / 16 miles - half challenge starting near the Wehrum Trailhead
- 12k / 7.5 miles - Friends/Family route starting at Nanty Glo Trailhead
Aid/fuel and restroom locations are listed by mile for the full course, and aid stations occur roughly every 5-6.5 miles.
Logistics and support
Transportation is provided from the finish area in Ebensburg to each start location. Packet pick-up is available the day before the event at a local store in Ebensburg. There are six full aid/fuel stations and one water-only station on the 32-mile course; stations offer foods, Gatorade, soda, bottled water, cups, and basic first aid supplies. Nine restroom facilities are available along the trail. A vehicle and first responders will assist participants who cannot continue. Ruck participants may purchase a custom patch and are asked to carry standard weights on the honor system.
Registration and fees
Registration closes June 6 at midnight; there is no race-day registration, no bib transfers, and no refunds. Early, regular, and late registration prices vary by distance. Youth 17 and under participate free but must pay for any optional shirt. All proceeds support Cambria County trails and related projects.
