Ghost Town Trail Challenge
The Ghost Town Trail Challenge is an endurance event held on the Ghost Town Trail in Pennsylvania. Scheduled near the summer solstice, the event focuses on testing physical and mental endurance on the longest day of the year. The course stretches between Black Lick and Ebensburg, utilizing the main trail as well as the C & I Extension.
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- 50-miler (running only)
- 32 miles (50k) Full Challenge hike or run
- 16 miles (25k) Half Challenge run or walk
- 7.5 miles (12k) Friends and Family Challenge run or walk
The 32-mile Full Challenge takes participants across the entire length of the Ghost Town Trail. For this distance, the goal is to complete the journey on foot between sunrise and sundown. The 50-miler incorporates both the main Ghost Town Trail and a 20-mile section of the C & I Extension. The different distances feature various starting points, including Saylor Park, the Dilltown Trailhead, the Wehrum Trailhead, and the Nanty Glo Trailhead, with all routes finishing at the YPCC in Ebensburg.
Registration is open to all ages, and entries for youth aged 17 and under are free. Proceeds from the event support the enhancement and expansion of the Cambria County Trails through the Friends of the Trails program. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
