Geyser Growl Half Marathon
The event is a half marathon that begins at Lake Tomahawk Park in Black Mountain and finishes at Hillman Beer in Old Fort. The course rises to the crest near Ridgecrest Conference Center, then descends on a mix of dirt and paved road, passes the historic Andrews Geyser, and ends in Old Fort. The course is USATF certified (NC22020BDS).
The race is limited to 500 participants. Registration for the 2026 edition opens January 1 and closes October 15 or when the event sells out. Entry fees vary by registration period. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before and on race morning at the Lake Tomahawk Park pavilion. A bag drop will be available near the start.
There are six aid stations spaced at roughly two mile intervals. Station supplies include water at all stations, Gatorade at four stations, and cookies at two stations. Chip timing is used; the timing chip is located on the back of the race bib. Each finisher receives a commemorative medal, and special awards are given to overall and Masters top three finishers plus age group awards for multiple categories.
Post race snacks and hot soup are provided. Runners over 21 may exchange the ticket on their bib for one Hillman beer. Dogs are not permitted unless accompanied by a veterinarian letter confirming the dog can run the distance under prevailing conditions. The event has a no refund and no deferral policy.
