Geyser Growl Half Marathon
The Geyser Growl Half Marathon takes place on a course from the Town of Black Mountain to the Town of Old Fort in North Carolina. The route passes the Andrews Geyser. It is a USATF certified course.
The event starts at Lake Tomahawk Park. The first two miles go around Black Mountain before heading up Old US 70. The course then goes downhill on a mix of dirt and paved road. There are six aid stations on the course, approximately every two miles. They provide water, Gatorade, and cookies.
After the race, finishers can access snacks, water, Gatorade, and hot soup. Runners over 21 can exchange a ticket on their bib for one beer from the presenting sponsor, Hillman Beer. The finish area is at Hillman Beer in Old Fort.
All finishers receive a commemorative medal. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top three masters (40 & over), and the top three in various age groups. The race uses chip timing with the chip attached to the race bib.
Packet pickup is available the day before and on the morning of the race. A shuttle service is available for a fee to transport runners from Old Fort to the start line in Black Mountain or back after the race. Parking is available in designated areas in both towns.
