Geyser Growl Half Marathon overview
The Geyser Growl Half Marathon is a fall road race held on October 17, 2026. The course begins at Lake Tomahawk Park in Black Mountain, travels past the historic Andrews Geyser, and finishes in Old Fort at Hillman Beer Old Fort. The event is limited to 500 participants and the course is USATF certified, Certification No. NC22020BDS.
Runners will find six aid stations spaced at about two mile intervals. Station supplies include water at all stations, Gatorade at four stations, and cookies at two stations. Chip timing will be used; the timing chip is on the back of the race bib and should be visible during the race.
Logistics include packet pickup on the day before and the morning of the race, a bag drop near the start, and ticketed shuttle service between Old Fort and Black Mountain for a fee. Entry fees vary by registration window: $70 from Jan 1 to Mar 31, $80 from Apr 1 to Aug 31, and $90 from Sep 1 through race day. Runners registered by October 7 are guaranteed the official race shirt while supplies last.
Finisher medals are provided to all finishers. Special awards are presented to top three male and female overall and Masters finishers, plus age group awards for standard age brackets. There is a no refund, no deferral policy; transfers are allowed for a $2 processing fee and must be completed by October 16. Dogs are not permitted unless accompanied by a veterinarian letter confirming ability to run the distance.
