The swim course uses four yellow turn buoys and orange sighting buoys approximately every 75 meters. Pre-swimming at the marina is prohibited; a water temperature reading is posted before the event.
The bike courses use well paved, low-traffic county roads with rolling hills and wide shoulders; the Olympic route differs from the Sprint by one turn near mile five. Approximate elevation gains are listed for each course. Run loops follow the shoulder of Chickamuxen Road and traverse the state park; the Olympic run is two laps of the Sprint loop and aid stations are located approximately every mile.
The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Race categories include Overall, Masters, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena and Relay Teams. One-day USAT licenses are available for nonmembers at published fees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
