Gene Bednarowski Memorial and Cherry Run
The Gene Bednarowski Memorial and Cherry Run is a July 4 event in Watervliet, Michigan, held in memory of Gene Bednarowski. Proceeds support the Watervliet Track and Field Program. The race route uses neighborhood streets, runs along Paw Paw Lake, and passes through the city of Watervliet after approval to close one lane of M140.
Distances offered include:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 10K Run
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
The event is part of the Fruitbelt Run Series; participation can count toward the series medal for competitors who run at least five Fruitbelt races. Fruitbelt organizers will be present at the event, and this year the series offers a special medal commemorating its 20th year.
Awards include overall male and female winners plus age-group placings for 1st through 3rd. The 5K age-group bands range from 10 and under up to 70 and over. The 1 Mile youth race (13 and under) awards the top 10 finishers. T-shirts are guaranteed for entries received by June 26; shirts after that date are available while supplies last. Virtual 5K shirts will be mailed beginning the week of July 6.
Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at Watervliet High School cafeteria and on the morning of the event. The event timing will be managed by Southwest Michigan Timing. Race day parking information is provided separately. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
