Event
The Break the Ice 5K Run/Walk and Frosty Dash takes place in South Haven, Michigan on Saturday, January 31, 2026. It is the 12th annual edition and serves as a fundraiser for the South Haven Public Schools middle and high school cross-country teams. The event includes these distances/events:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
- Kid’s Frosty Dash
The race is chip timed. Race photography will be provided by Radiant Landscapes and photos will be posted after the event. BIGGBY Coffee will be present at the finish area.
Logistics
The start location is Kalamazoo Street near Eagle Street by Black River Books. The finish area is on Water Street next to the Municipal Marina. Packet pick-up and late registration are available the day before at South Haven High School and on race day at Black River Tavern. Separate results and awards are given for runners and walkers, with award divisions by male and female age groups from 1-11 up to 70+. Organizers list several local sponsors and request checks be made payable to "SHPS - Break the Ice 5k" and mailed to South Haven High School, Attn: Athletic Department, 600 Elkenburg St., South Haven, MI 49090.
