Event Overview

The GBTC Grand Island Half Marathon is the 32nd annual edition of this event. It takes place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Beaver Island State Park in Grand Island, New York. The race is part of the Buffalo Runner of the Year series and has been held since 1995.

Three event formats are offered:

  • Half Marathon (In-person)
  • Virtual Half Marathon
  • Duo Division Team 1/2 Marathon Run

Included Features

Registered participants receive several amenities. These include chip timing, a commemorative finisher's medal, and a race shirt. Free downloadable photos are provided, taken at the start, on the course, and at the finish line. The event also offers free live tracking and progress alerts via the RaceJoy app. First-time half marathoners receive a medal with a distinct ribbon and have a dedicated photo opportunity.

Course Details

The half marathon course is a flat, out-and-back route along the scenic Niagara River. More than 85% of the course is closed to traffic, and there is no time limit to complete the race. The event starts and finishes in the main parking lot of Beaver Island State Park.

Race Day Logistics

On race day, bib pickup begins at 7:30 AM in the main parking lot. Six hydration stations along the course provide water and sports drinks, and runners may carry their own. Eight portable toilet stations are available on the course, with additional facilities at the start/finish area. A post-race party with awards, food, drinks, and music is held adjacent to the finish line.

Awards

Awards are presented for overall male and female winners, overall Masters winners, and winners in the 19 and under category. The top three finishers in each five-year age division, from 19 and under to 80+, also receive awards. Event records are recognized, with an entry fee refund offered for anyone breaking a record in their division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
