Greater Buffalo Track Club Grand Island Half Marathon
The 33rd Annual Grand Island Half Marathon is held at Beaver Island State Park in Grand Island, NY. The event is listed as a Buffalo Runner of the Year Race and continues a tradition that began with the inaugural race on April 15, 1995.
The event offers a 13.1 miles half marathon with both in-person and virtual options. Registration opens on November 1, 2026 and closes on May 1, 2027. The in-person registration fee is $75 and the virtual fee is $70. Virtual participants must log their 13.1 miles in RaceJoy between May 1 and May 8 and may pick up their commemorative shirt and medal at a designated location.
Amenities include RaceJoy live tracking with progress alerts and cheer sending, chip timing for in-person runners, and free downloadable photos organized by bib number. Every finisher receives a commemorative shirt and medal; first-time half marathoners receive a distinct ribbon and a dedicated photo opportunity. A post race party is held adjacent to the finish area with awards, food, drinks, and music.
The course is a flat out and back route along the Niagara River, with more than 85 percent of the route closed to traffic and no time limit to complete the race. There are six hydration stations staffed by volunteers, portable toilets along the course, and additional facilities at the start and finish. Event records are tracked and the entry fee is refunded to any runner who breaks a record in their division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
