Gaylord Gauntlet
The Gaylord Gauntlet is a 5K trail and obstacle run held on the 400 acre campus of Gaylord Specialty Healthcare in Wallingford, CT. The event takes place across wooded trails and open fields and features 24 natural and manmade obstacles. Mud is used sparingly and some obstacles emphasize upper body strength, including a rock wall climb and vine swings.
The event serves as a fundraiser for Gaylord Specialty Healthcare and supports the Gaylord Sports Association, an adaptive sports program for people with physical and visual disabilities. The Sports Association offers multiple sports and recreational activities at low or no cost, including golf, snow skiing, adaptive cycling, archery, water skiing, adaptive rock climbing, wheelchair rugby, tennis, and sled hockey.
The Gauntlet course is planned, built, and run by Gaylord staff and volunteers. A Festival Area on site features local vendors, live music, and food trucks. Volunteers play a central role in event operations; the organizer typically relies on about 150 volunteers to help manage the course and other event tasks and supports nearly 1,000 runners through staffing and logistics. Volunteers receive a t shirt, a bag lunch, and a ticket for a beverage at the end of their shift. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
