Gavel Fell Race
The Gavel Fell Race is a fell running event held in the Lake District region of England. The event takes place at The Leaps near Kirkland and is integrated with the Ennerdale Show. The senior race covers a distance of 8 km (5 miles) and includes a total ascent of 330 m (1083 ft). According to the Fell Runners Association classification, this is a category BS race.
Participants must be at least 18 years old for the senior distance. The event requires runners to carry full FRA kit. This typically includes waterproof whole body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, and emergency food. The course requires specific skills, including experience in fell running, the ability to navigate using a map and compass, and local knowledge.
In addition to the senior category, the event hosts junior races for age groups including U10, U12, U14, and U16. Registration is handled on the day of the event, and there is no pre-entry system. While there is no specific race fee, participants pay for entry to the Ennerdale Show field. The race is permitted and insured through the FRA.
