Garlic City Turkey Trot : Inaugural event in Gilroy
The Garlic City Turkey Trot is an inaugural community running event hosted by Garlic City Hybrid Training on Thanksgiving Day in Gilroy, California. The event offers two event options:
- 5K run or walk
- 5K ruck division with enforced weight requirements
The course begins at Gilroy Sports Park and follows the Levee Park Preserve alongside oak trees. The route is mainly flat, fully paved, and accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and other mobility devices. The course will be marked and assisted by volunteers, with clearly marked turnaround points. One aid station is located at the halfway point; snacks will be available at the finish. This is a cupless event, so participants must carry a bottle, collapsible cup, or other means to drink at the aid station.
Custom shirts and finisher shirts are part of the event. Participants registered by September 18 are guaranteed a shirt in their chosen size; registrations after that date are guaranteed a shirt but not a specific size. There will be no food trucks because the event falls on Thanksgiving Day; coffee will be available for purchase from Taaza.
Proceeds are shared with the local community: half will fund workout equipment for community fitness and half will benefit Rebeka's Children's Services for its Culinary Academy. Ruck rules require 30 pounds for men and 20 pounds for women; rucksacks will be weighed before the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
