Event Details
The Galveston Sand Crab 5K/10K/Kid’s Beach 1K takes place on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The event is held at R.A. Apffel East Beach Park Pavilion in Galveston, Texas. It benefits the Galveston Humane Society.
Course Information
The races start and finish at R.A. Apffel East Beach Park. The course is run entirely on sand on Galveston Beach at night. The out-and-back route is marked with LED lights. Runners are required to use a flashlight or headlamp. The 1K event for kids starts at 8:00 PM, while the 5K and 10K events start at 8:30 PM.
The 5K is a 3.1-mile run with a 2-hour cutoff time. The 10K is a 6.2-mile run that also has a 2-hour overall cutoff; participants must reach the 3.1-mile turnaround point within 1 hour.
Registration and Amenities
Registration includes a custom finisher medal for all runners, a tech shirt with the event logo, and beer from Galveston Island Brewing Co. (with valid ID). There are manned water stops on the course.
Awards
Awards are given for the 5K and 10K races. These include first overall male and female, first master male and female, and top three finishers in each age group. For the Kid’s 1K, the top three boys and top three girls receive awards, and all finishers get a medal.
Packet Pickup
Packet pickup is available on Friday before the race at Galveston Island Brewing Co. (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) and on race day at Apffel Park Pavilion (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM).
Parking
Parking at Apffel Park is $15 until 6:00 PM on race day, after which it is free. There is also a free parking lot available on a first-come, first-served basis before the entrance to the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
