Galveston Island Sand Crab Nighttime Beach Run
The event takes place at R.A. Apffel East Beach Park Pavilion, 1923 Boddeker Rd, Galveston, TX 77550. Races run entirely on sand along East Beach and are held at night. The course is marked with LED lights and all participants must run with a flashlight or headlamp. All races are chip timed and all finishers receive a custom finisher medal.
Distances
- 5K out-and-back on sand, marked with LED lights.
- 10K out-and-back on sand, marked with LED lights.
- Kid’s Beach K (1K) out-and-back for youth.
The course runs west for 3.1 or 1.55 miles depending on the event, then returns to the finish. Water stops provide water and sports drink; the 5K and 10K visit water stations multiple times. The 5K and 10K share a two hour course cutoff. 10K runners must reach the 3.1 mile turnaround within one hour.
Kid’s K details include a 30 minute time limit, course marshals, adults leading the kids, and a youth cotton tee for entrants. Parents may run with children free of charge. Kid awards go to the top three boys and girls; all kids receive finisher medals.
Packet pickup is available the Friday before the race at Galveston Island Brewing Co and on race day at Apffel Park East Beach Pavilion. Apffel Park entrances are drivable; beach parking is $15 until 6 PM then free, and a free lot before the park is first come first serve. The event benefits Galveston Humane Society.
