Event Overview
The Galloping Gertie is a running event located in Gig Harbor, Washington, that utilizes the Tacoma Narrows Bridge as its primary course feature. Participants have the opportunity to run across the bridge span to span, crossing over the Puget Sound. The event is named after the original suspension bridge that occupied the site before its collapse in 1940.
The route provides views of the Olympic Mountains, Mount Rainier, and the Puget Sound, as well as the skylines of Tacoma and Gig Harbor. Runners will traverse the eastbound bridge structure, which was completed in 2007. The proceeds from the event are used to support local charities.
The following race distances are available:
- Half Marathon
- 10k
- 5k
All participants receive a custom finisher medal and a technical t-shirt. The event also provides free downloadable race photography for all runners. The start and staging area is located at the Tacoma Narrows Airport. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
