Galena River Trail Run
The Kiwanis Club of Galena hosts the annual River Trail Run, an event that serves as a seasonal opener for local runners and visitors. The race takes place on the Galena River Trail, with the main event area located under the bridge at Depot Park. The trail is noted for being easily accessible with available parking.
Participants can choose from two main distances:
- 5K run-walk
- 10K run
The event includes multiple age categories for both men and women, ranging from 12 and under to 80 plus. Recognition is provided for top finishers in all age groups, with male and female medal winners for first, second, and third place in both the 5K and 10K distances. Participants in the 12 and under category who do not place in the top three receive a ribbon.
Registration includes a t-shirt for those who sign up by the specified deadline, as well as timing chips and race information packets. Early registration periods offer discounted rates. The proceeds from the event are used by the Galena Kiwanis Foundation to fund grants for local organizations that support youth programs and improve the quality of life for children and families in the Galena area.
