Galena Kiwanis River Trail Run, Galena IL
The Kiwanis Club of Galena is hosting the 7th annual River Trail Run on April 18, 2026. Proceeds will be used to develop grants awarded to organizations that support children in the Galena community.
The event includes these distances:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 10K (6.2 miles)
The course begins at Depot Park adjacent to the old Galena Depot Railroad Station and follows the Galena River Trail south along the backwaters of the Mississippi River on an out-and-back route. The trail surface is crushed limestone with a few sections of asphalt. The course is primarily flat with several rolling inclines. For safety, strollers and dogs are not permitted on the racecourse during the races.
Registration is tiered with set fees for specific date ranges, online registration closes April 16 at midnight, and registrations are final with no refunds. Registered participants receive a racing shirt, bib number and timing chip; shirts cannot be guaranteed for registrations after April 6. Packet pick-up is available on the day before and the day of the event at a tent under the bridge in Depot Park.
Awards include medals for 1st through 3rd in each age group and overall male and female winners; participants 12 and under who do not place will receive a ribbon. Refreshments are provided for participants only. Races will be held rain or shine unless dangerous conditions require cancellation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
