Mines of Spain 100 - Dubuque, IA
The Mines of Spain 100 is a multi-loop trail ultramarathon on October 16, 2026, held at Louis Murphy Park and the Mines of Spain Recreation Area near Dubuque, Iowa. The event offers two distances:
- 100 Mile (5 loops, ~14,000 ft total elevation gain)
- 100 Kilometer (3 loops, ~8,400 ft total elevation gain)
Each race follows a marked loop of roughly 20 miles that uses a network of dirt, grass and rock trails with a few short pavement connectors. The course includes steep and technical sections as well as flat single track and rolling grassy stretches. Several points on the route provide views of the Mississippi River and pass around Horseshoe Bluff, prairie areas and hardwood forest.
Time limits are set by the event: 33 hours for the 100 mile and 23 hours for the 100 kilometer. Packet pickup and prerace activities take place before race day and Thursday evening does not allow camping or runner setup.
The event publishes registration deadlines and a refund and deferral policy with specific percentage and date-based options. Bib transfers are not allowed. When the race reaches capacity a waitlist is used and invited runners are contacted in order. The organizers may modify the course or cancel for safety or trail conditions; in those cases registration fees may not be refunded. Mile 90 Photography will provide race photos free to runners. The race is part of the No Coast Trail Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
