Each loop includes short pavement sections at the beginning and end to connect segments. Trails vary from steep and technical to flat dirt single track and rolling grassy sections. Runners pass viewpoints of the Mississippi River, traverse around Horseshoe Bluff, and move through prairie and hardwood forest terrain. Elevation gain is about 2,800 ft per loop.

The event lists time limits for each distance and maintains a race schedule with packet pickup and prerace gatherings at Louis Murphy Park. Registration closes on October 1 and the race uses a public waitlist when capacity is reached. The refund and deferral policy specifies deadlines, percentage refunds or deferral credits, and that bib transfers are not allowed.
