Mines of Spain 100 - Dubuque, IA
The Mines of Spain 100 is a trail ultramarathon held in Louis Murphy Park and the Mines of Spain Recreation Area in Dubuque, Iowa. The event uses a marked loop of roughly 20 miles that starts and finishes at Louis Murphy Park and spends most of its miles on dirt, grass and rock trails through bluffs, prairies and hardwood forests.
Distances:
- 100 Miler, 5 loops, ~14,000 ft total elevation gain
- 100K, 3 loops, ~8,400 ft total elevation gain
Each loop gains approximately 2,800 ft. The course includes short paved connectors at the beginning and end of the loop, multiple river overlooks including views of the Mississippi, a passage around Horseshoe Bluff, and a mix of trail types from steep technical sections to flat singletrack and rolling grassy stretches.
Logistics notes include packet pickup and a prerace gathering at Louis Murphy Park in the days before the race; park access is restricted to race staff and volunteers before the race morning. Time limits are specified for each distance. Registration has a published closing date and a waitlist is maintained once capacity is reached; waitlisted participants are invited in order as spots open. Partial refunds and deferrals are offered under stated deadlines, pregnancy deferral rules apply, and bib transfers are not allowed. The race may modify the course or cancel for safety or trail conditions; refunds may not be issued in those cases.
