Galena Sky Trail Race : Chestnut Mountain Resort

Galena Sky Trail Race is a timed trail event held at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Illinois. The event uses a looped course on resort trails that follow the same hills used for winter skiing and offer views across the Mississippi River toward Iowa and Wisconsin. The format features two timed options based on duration rather than fixed distances.

The course includes a larger loop and a shorter loop. Runners return to the event area each circuit where music and an after party take place. A finisher meal prepared by the resort is served in the evening and all entrants receive a race shirt and a three dimensional metal finisher medal.

Event awards include overall male and female placements for first through third, 10 year age group awards, and a special prize for best Nordic Viking warrior costume with separate male and female recognition. Prizes are also presented for after party activities.

The event publishes a rollover policy for registrations: full rollover is allowed with notice by 70 days before the event and 50 percent race credit is available with notice by 25 days before the event. Mileage in the timed races determines awards and ties are resolved by who reaches the tied mileage first.
