Galena Sky Trail Races
Galena Sky Trail Races is a timed loop trail running event held at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Illinois on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The event offers two timed formats in which runners accumulate as many miles as they can within the chosen time frame. Distance and lap tracking are handled by Sid's timing; awards are based on total mileage, with ties broken by who reached the mileage first.
The course uses the resort trails that are also used for winter skiing and provides views across the Mississippi River toward Iowa and Wisconsin. The event features a repeating loop format that returns runners to a central festival area with music and an after party. A finisher medal, race shirt, and a postrace dinner prepared by Chestnut Mountain Resort are included with entry. Extra meal tickets are available for participants and guests.
Distances:
- 2.91-mile long loop
- 0.6-mile short loop; opens later and must be completed before the loop cutoff
Awards include overall male and female 1st through 3rd places, 10 year age group awards, and special prizes for best warrior costume.
