Event Overview
The Galena Sky Trail Races are timed trail running events taking place on the trails of Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Illinois. The event features two timed distances: an 8-hour race and a 4-hour race.
Course Details
The course is a looped, timed event where runners complete as many loops as they wish within the time limit. The main loop is approximately 2.91 miles long. A shorter loop of 0.6 miles opens later in the day. The course uses ski trails and offers views of the Mississippi River, with vistas of Iowa and Wisconsin.
Awards and Recognition
Awards are given to the runners who complete the most mileage within their time limit. Ties are broken by the runner who reached the mileage first. Categories include overall male and female winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and age group awards in 10-year spans. There is also a costume contest with a "Nordic Viking Warriors" theme; the best warrior costume wins a special prize.
Amenities and Atmosphere
Registration includes a race shirt, a finisher medal, and a post-race dinner. The after-party features a taco bar prepared by Chestnut Mountain Resort, a DJ, music, and dancing with prizes.
