Galena Sky Trail Races
Galena Sky Trail Races is a timed trail running event held in Galena, IL on the trails of Chestnut Mountain Resort. The event offers looped timed courses where competitors run as many laps as they can within a set time period. Final Lap timing records each runner's mileage and awards are based on the most miles completed; ties are decided by who reached the mileage first.
The course uses ski-area trails with views across the Mississippi River toward Iowa and Wisconsin. The longer loop measures 2.91 miles and a shorter 0.6 mile loop becomes available later in the day; loops must be completed within the event time to count. The format includes both a four hour option and an eight hour option.
Race amenities include a finisher medal, race shirt, and a post-race meal prepared by Chestnut Mountain Resort. An after party at the loop finish features DJ music and prizes. Awards include overall male and female top three, age group awards in ten year spans, and a best warrior costume trophy.
The event is organized by Ornery Mule Racing. Online registration and race day signup options are mentioned by the organizer. The organizer also offers a rollover policy with different credit options and a volunteer-for-credit option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
