Event overview
The Galena Sky Trail Races take place at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Illinois. The event in 2026 is scheduled for May 16, 2026. The races are organized as timed loop events with two race durations: an eight-hour event and a four-hour event. Course and format
The course is a looped trail set on the resort trails used for winter skiing and offers views across the Mississippi River. Loop distances are:
- Long loop: 2.91 miles
- Short loop: 0.6 miles
Runners complete as many loops as they can within the chosen time frame. Official timing records mileage and awards are determined by the greatest mileage completed; ties are decided by who reached the mileage first. The event includes an after-party with music and a DJ.
Awards, fees and policies
All finishers receive a heavy metal 3-D finisher medal. Awards include overall male and female 1st to 3rd and age-group awards in 10-year spans. A best Warrior costume prize is awarded for male and female categories. Early bird entry through January 1, 2026 is listed at $89. Extra meal tickets are available for purchase and are non-refundable. The organizer offers rollover options and credits under stated deadlines; no refunds are provided.
