GAF Beer Mile
The GAF Beer Mile takes place in Oregon, Ohio, as part of the German American Festival. This event combines running with beverage consumption, following official sporting rules for this format. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- Beer Mile: A 1 mile distance involving four laps and the consumption of four beers.
- Mini Mile: A 1/2 mile distance involving two laps and the consumption of two beers.
For the full mile, competitors drink one 12oz (355ml) can of Labatt beer before each quarter-mile lap. The beer must be consumed within a designated 10-meter transition zone before the lap begins. Rules specify that the beer must have a minimum of 5% alcohol by volume and cans must not be tampered with or modified to allow for faster pouring. If a participant vomits before the finish, they are required to complete one penalty lap at the end of the race.
The event is organized into consecutive heats with a maximum capacity of 30 people per wave. Registration includes the beer provided for the race, a t-shirt, and entry to the German American Festival. This event is open to participants aged 21 and older.
