Fueling Education Fun Run
The Fueling Education Fun Run takes place every September in partnership with HF Sinclair and the Anacortes Schools Foundation. The event is held at Washington Park and functions as a community fundraiser to support Anacortes students.
Proceeds from the run have averaged close to $60,000 per year and have totaled nearly $500,000 over the past ten years. Funds raised in recent years have supported specific programs and needs, including COVID relief grants in 2020, mental health supports in 2021, STEM enrichment and CTE programming in 2022, a 3rd grade swim program in 2023, high school science equipment in 2024, and STEM college scholarships.
The event offers multiple participation options:
- 2.3 mile race
- 0.3 mile kids race
- Virtual race option
Race day includes a range of awards and recognitions. Prizes and trophies are given for 1st through 3rd place male and female finishers, the fastest teacher in the school district, the fastest HF Sinclair refinery employee, the fastest race sponsor, and the fastest child in each kids race age category. All participants receive a finisher medal and there are raffle prizes distributed on race day. HF Sinclair provides a $5,000 grant to the Anacortes School District school with the highest percentage of student participation, and the winning school is announced after the race.
