Frozen Goat : January 17, 2026

The Frozen Goat is a trail running event held at Monte Sano State Park, 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. It is the third race in the Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series. The event offers the following distances:

  • 30K
  • 15K
  • 4 Miler

The field is capped at 400 runners. Race shirts are described as a soft tri-blend. Age-group awards are offered in the following brackets: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Course, aid stations and logistics

Courses include bluff views, creek crossings and waterfalls. The event is a cupless race; participants must carry a handheld bottle, pack or reusable cup. A reusable cup was available for purchase at registration for $5.

Several aid stations will be on course providing water, Gatorade, soda, GU, pretzels, M&M’s, granola bars and similar items. Aid station locations:

  • 4 Mile: water at 2.4 miles.
  • 15K: aid at 5.3 and 7.4 miles.
  • 30K: aid at 5.3, 7.4, 10.6, 11.6 and 14.0 miles.

Packet pickup is available at the RunningLane store (2407 Memorial Parkway SW Suite 1, Huntsville, AL) the day before the race and on race morning. There are very loose cutoffs for the 4 Mile and 15K; the 30K has a hard cutoff of 5 hours 30 minutes. Lodging options at Monte Sano State Park include cabins and RV campgrounds.
