Frosty Squatchy
Frosty Squatchy is a winter trail party held on January 30, 2027, that raises funds for the South Mountain Conservancy. The event uses a fixed-timed format on an approximately 5K loop and is capped at 200 participants across all events. It follows a Fat-Sass format with minimal support; participants bring their own fuel and hydration while organizers provide water coolers at the event base, a first aid kit, and an AED.
The course profile and terrain are described as a mix of wide carriage roads and technical singletrack. Each 5K loop includes about 300 feet of elevation gain, with a rocky 200 plus foot descent early in the loop, a 100 foot climb near mile 2.5, and a final mile of singletrack with rocks and roots. The loop composition is roughly 84% wide carriage roads and 16% technical singletrack. Course markings include neon pink reflective ribbon and large red directional arrows. Trekking poles are allowed and winter traction devices may be recommended.
Event options:
- 5K
- 3 hour timed event
- 6 hour timed event
- 3 hour rucking division with 15 lb and 30 lb dry weight categories
Facilities at the Turtleback Rock Picnic Area include portable toilets with one ADA unit and parking for about 110 cars at the main lot. Pacers or guides are permitted for athletes over age 60 and athletes with disabilities. The event does not offer refunds or deferrals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
