Frosty Squatchy : Trail Party, January 30, 2027
The Frosty Squatchy is a trail party held on January 30, 2027 at Turtleback Rock Picnic Area in South Mountain Reservation, West Orange. It uses a repeated 5K loop with about 300 ft of elevation gain per loop. The loop is roughly 84 percent wide carriage roads and 16 percent technical singletrack with rocks and roots.

- 3H ruck with Lightweight 15 lb and Heavyweight 30 lb divisions
The course includes a wide dirt first mile, a rocky 200+ ft descent near mile one, a 100 ft climb near mile 2.5, and a final mile of singletrack. The event follows a Fat-Sass style format: no swag and no staffed aid stations. Participants must carry their own fuel and hydration; organizers provide coolers of water at the start/finish area and portable toilets including an ADA unit.
Capacity is capped at 200 participants across all events. Parking at the picnic area fits about 110 cars with volunteer-directed overflow to nearby streets. Pacers or guides are allowed for participants age 60 and for athletes with disabilities; crews may access only the start/finish area and may not aid runners elsewhere on the course. The event raises funds for the South Mountain Conservancy and provides trail reports and winter traction recommendations before race day.
