Tradition and Location
The Frostbite Races are an annual winter event held in Fletcher, North Carolina. For over three decades, this event has brought the community together during the colder months. All courses start and finish at the Lelia Patterson Center.
Course Details
Participants can choose from three distinct distances across the scenic landscape of Western North Carolina, featuring views of Hutch Mountain:
- 10k (6.2 miles): A route with a net elevation gain of 464 feet.
- 5k (3.1 miles): A route with a net elevation gain of 257 feet.
- 1-mile fun run: A completely flat course.
The terrain for the 10k and 5k is hilly with moderate inclines. Roads remain open to traffic during the event, and children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a registered adult. The event is professionally chip-timed using the MyLaps Timing system.
Event Features and Amenities
The event includes a Family Fun Day and Wellness Expo held indoors at the Lelia Patterson Center gym. This expo features local vendors, wellness services such as massage and physical therapy, live music, and family activities.
All finishers receive a commemorative medal. Depending on the registration date and distance, participants may receive a long-sleeve Dri-fit shirt or a short-sleeve shirt. The 10k race offers gift card prizes for the top three male and female overall winners.
