Event Overview
The Friedberg JCC 5K Run/Walk is an annual sports event held at Baldwin Park in New York. The course is a flat, certified route contained entirely within the park grounds. The event takes place rain or shine and offers both in-person and virtual participation options. Proceeds from the event support Parkinson's programs at the JCC, which include physical activities such as boxing and Tai Chi, as well as support groups and lectures.
Participation Options
- 5K Run/Walk: An in-person race held at Baldwin Park.
- Virtual 5K: A flexible option allowing participants to complete the distance at a location of their choice between May 17 and May 24.
Amenities and Awards
Participants who register early are provided with t-shirts, though sizes are not guaranteed. All registrants receive swag bags, fruit, and water. For the in-person event, an awards ceremony is held at the finish line following the completion of the race. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories:
- 11 and under
- 12-19
- 20-29
- 30-39
- 40-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- 70 and over
Technical Details
In-person participants can pick up their bibs at the park starting one hour before the event. Those who register at least three weeks in advance receive a personalized bib with their name. For virtual participants, bibs are shipped to the provided address. The event utilizes electronic timing, providing live online results, finish line photos, and video for participants.
