FreeWalkers Marathon Walk - Philadelphia, Fairmount Park
FreeWalkers.org presents a long-distance walk through Philadelphia that uses Fairmount Park and the Wissahickon Valley as its primary corridors. Routes run from 30th Street Station to Chestnut Hill and showcase urban and park landscapes, historic sites, and riverside trails. Terrain includes paved paths, gravel, and grass, with very few road crossings after leaving Center City.
Distances offered:
- 26.2 miles (marathon route)
- 13.1 miles (half-marathon route)
The full route covers a wide range of city highlights and park features, including riverfront sections, boardwalks, major squares and parks, public art, historic buildings, and noted park landmarks. The half-marathon follows a shorter course along the Schuylkill and Wissahickon corridors and shares several scenic segments with the full route. Two snack bars with nearby bathrooms are available along the way.
Logistics note that the walk begins outside the south side of 30th Street Station and finishes in the Chestnut Hill area, with optional endpoints such as East Falls Station and Highland Station. Transit access includes Amtrak, Megabus, NJ Transit connections, and SEPTA for returns. Nearby parking options include local garages and lots. The event is listed as free and has a refund policy allowing refunds up to seven days before the event. The route difficulty is described as average to advanced.
