Frederick Women's Distance Festival

The Frederick Women's Distance Festival celebrates its 37th year at the Frederick Community College Student Center. Organized by the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club, this event honors the history of women's rights to participate in distance running. The festival offers a variety of ways to participate, including in-person races and a virtual alternative.

Participants can choose from several event options:

  • 5K Run/Walk
  • Athletes Serving Athletes 5K
  • Little Women 1K Fun Run (open to ages 13 and under)
  • VIRTUAL 5k Run/Walk

The race has a long-standing tradition of supporting the local community. Net proceeds from the event are donated to The Women's Giving Circle of Frederick County. Registration fees for the race include all processing fees.

The event site provides access to training plans and in-person training groups for participants. The festival's origins trace back to 1979 when the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) established the Women's Distance Festival in response to the limited distance running opportunities for women in the Olympic Games at that time. Today, the event continues to celebrate female runners of all ages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
