Frederick Summer Solstice 8K
The Frederick Summer Solstice 8K is an annual running event held in Walkersville, Maryland, with the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company at 79 W. Frederick St serving as the event location. The race marks the start of the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere and includes an evening celebration after the running events.
Event options include:
- 8K Run, price $40
- One-Mile Fun Run, price $25
- ASA 8k, price $40
After the races there is a celebration party featuring craft beer and live music as the sun sets. The event is presented by the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club and lists MedStar Health as a premier sponsor.
Net proceeds from the Frederick Summer Solstice 8K are donated to the Frederick chapter of Blessings In A Backpack. That program provides food on weekends and over school breaks for school-age children who might otherwise go hungry when school meals are unavailable. The Frederick Steeplechasers donated $14,068 from the 2026 race, and the total donated since 2016 is $206,126.
The event page lists additional information about race logistics, volunteer opportunities, sponsors, results, and photos. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
