Fort Morgan to Florida 50k
This event is a 50k beach run along Alabama's Gulf Coast, beginning at the far west point of the Fort Morgan Peninsula and finishing at the Florida state line near the Flora-Bama bar-venue. The route runs on soft, often driftwood-strewn sand and passes from relatively untouched beach areas into more developed resort sections with beachgoers.
The format has been changed to a fatass group run and FKT attempt. Participants walk one mile to the official start. The official route stays within the mean tidal range of the beach; Alabama state law designates this area as public land. The organizers note that runners may choose firmer or softer sand within that zone, but leaving the sand anywhere other than the authorized crossings can lead to disqualification or intervention by local authorities.
Course features include two mandatory bridge crossings; crossing these gaps by swimming is not permitted. The bridges are the only locations where leaving the sand is allowed. There are six aid stations and three restroom locations along the course. No shuttle service is provided. Registration closes on May 6 at 11:59 PM CT.
