Fort Macon Mosquito 5K & 10K
The Fort Macon Mosquito events take place at Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach, NC, at 2303 E Fort Macon Rd. The races are hosted by the Friends of Fort Macon and raise funds for the park, including preservation of a baby whale skeleton, upkeep of park trails, and other park enhancements.
Distances offered:
- 5K - ONE lap of the Elliot Coues Trail (3.2 miles)
- 10K - TWO laps of the same trail
The course includes a fully stocked aid station plus snacks and drinks. This is a cup-free race; participants must bring their own hydration devices. Runners may bring personal coolers, tents, chairs, canopies, or other supplies to set up a personal aid station they can visit each lap. Items left on site are at the owner’s risk and are not monitored by park or race staff. The Fort Macon hillside serves as the staging area for runners, and the start/finish line will be clearly marked to separate the finish from the second-lap lane.
Packet pickup is at the Fort Macon Visitor Center on May 7 and May 8 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with additional pickup the morning of the event starting at 8:00 AM. Registration is available via Ultrasignup.com; signing up by April 5, 2026 guarantees a race shirt. Registration closes May 7, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
