Formartine & Buchan 12 Hour Ultra
The event is a timed trail ultra held along the disused Formartine and Buchan railway between Maud and Auchnagatt. It is offered in two time formats: a 12 hour continuous out-and-back and a 6 hour version on the same route. Point A is Maud Railway Station and Point B is Auchnagatt village hall; the distance between the two is 4.3 miles.
The route follows the old railway line and is described as flat and runnable. There is a slight incline in both directions toward the midway point of the out-and-back, approximately 100 feet per direction. The course is entirely on trail and passes through rural areas where cattle may be present near the line.
Both Maud and Auchnagatt are used for fueling and support during the event, so runners can access supplies from either station. The race location is Maud Railway Station, Station Road, Maud, Peterhead AB42 5LY. The event date is 08/05/2027.
Entry is limited to 80 participants and places are allocated on a first come first served basis. The format repeats the 4.3 mile section continuously for the duration of the chosen timed event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
