Event overview
The Formartine & Buchan Railway 12 & 6hr Ultra is a time-based ultra event on the former Formartine & Buchan railway line between Maud and Auchnagatt. The course between Maud station and Auchnagatt is estimated at approximately 4.3 miles. The event is organised by Tay & Ram Running Events and is based at Maud Railway Museum.

Competitors aim to cover as much distance as possible within their chosen time limit. A minimum distance of 26.3 miles is required to qualify for a medal and goodie bag; extra miles may be needed to complete the lap that confirms this minimum. Mini laps will be open towards the end of the race and only completed mini short laps are counted. Completion of a marathon is preferred but not required. Age restriction: entrants must be 20 years or older, with rules applied under Scottish Athletics.
Entries opened 11 May 2025 and close 15 March 2026. Entry fees are listed as UKA member £60.00 and non-member £62.00. The event page lists an entry count of 14 participants at the time shown.
