Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6 Ultra
The event is a timed ultra run held on the Formartine and Buchan railway line between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall, with the point-to-point distance estimated at about 4.3 miles. Competitors attempt to cover as much distance as they can within a time limit, with two course options:
- 12 hour course
- 6 hour course
For the 12 hour course a minimum distance of 26.3 miles is required to qualify for a medal and goodie bag; additional laps may be needed to confirm that distance. Mini laps will be open toward the end of the race and only fully completed mini laps are counted. Support crews are advised and may provide assistance at either end of the route.
Entry is restricted to participants aged 20 years and older under Scottish Athletics rules. Organiser information and online entry are provided by the event organiser. Prizes are awarded in main categories for the 12 hour race including senior, veteran, vet 50, and vet 60 for male and female, and first to third places for the 6 hour race. A bespoke overall male and female champion trophy is also presented and returned to organisers each year.
