Morven Hill Race
The Morven Hill Race is scheduled for Saturday 3rd October 2026 at Groddie, by Dinnet, Aboyne (Grid Ref NJ410044). The event comprises three marked hill races on Morven, featuring steep ground and a technical descent. Runners must follow the marked route.
- Full Morven: 8.8 km, 660 m climb
- Half Morven: 4.0 km, 400 m climb; open to Senior and Juniors U18 and U16
- Mini Morven: 1.8 km, 125 m climb; for U14 and U12 only
The full route follows tracks to the summit and returns via a bealach below Roar Hill, with the course clearly marked. The Half follows the full route to the first plateau before cutting left to rejoin the descent. The Mini is an out-and-back along part of the full descent route.
The event is insured through Scottish Hill Runners and is run under their rules. Juniors who are under 17 on 31 December are not permitted to enter the full Morven race. All entrants in the full race must carry full waterproof body cover with taped seams, a hat, gloves, and a paper map and compass; phone GPX is not an acceptable alternative. Dogs must be kept on a lead in the assembly and finish area, and are not allowed on the hill because there are sheep in the area.
Entries open 17:00 on Friday 21 August. Pre-entry fees are Adults £10 and Juniors (U18) £3, payable at registration. Entry on the day is Adults £13 and Juniors £3. Prizes and trophies are awarded after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
