Event Overview
The Forest of Dean Ultra Marathon, also known as the FOD Ultra, is a circular trail race covering a total distance of 55 km. The course takes participants through the varied landscapes of the Forest of Dean, featuring technical single-track paths, open stretches along the River Wye, and dense woodlands. The route encompasses ridges with views of the Brecon Beacons and passes through major interest points, including the Symonds Yat viewpoint and Mallards Pike.
This is a self-navigation event, and participants are required to follow a precise GPX route provided by the organizers. The terrain includes approximately 1300 meters of vertical gain. Runners can choose to enter the standard category or the Canicross category, as dogs are permitted with a separate race start.

Logistics and Facilities
The Race HQ and parking are located at Beechenhurst in the Forest of Dean. The event provides at least three well-stocked aid stations along the course, spaced approximately 15 km apart. These stations offer water, electrolytes, food, and snacks, and are equipped with permanent toilet facilities. Parking for support vehicles is also available at these locations.
Participants are required to carry mandatory safety equipment, including a waterproof jacket with taped seams, a survival bag, a first aid kit, and a whistle. A mobile phone with a fully charged battery and a method for GPS navigation (phone or sports watch) is essential. All finishers receive a unique medal and race merchandise. Medical professionals and support vehicles are on-site to assist for the duration of the event.
Participation Requirements
The event is limited to a 10-hour completion time. Participants must check themselves in at each aid station and are responsible for their own navigation.
