Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon
The Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon offers a multi-terrain course through scenic woodland trails. Organized by The Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean and supported by the Forestry Commission, the race takes place entirely on forest paths with no road crossings. The route consists of way-marked trails, including some sections with gravel and varied elevations.
The event features a single distance:
- Half Marathon (13 miles 192.5 yards)
The course starts and finishes at Speech House. It is an officially measured route under UKA rules, using yellow paint for ground markings and featuring mile-markers throughout. The trails offer participants the opportunity to run under the late-summer leaf canopy of the forest. To ensure safety and guidance, the race is led by lead cyclists and overseen by a network of marshals and radio communications.
Water stations are positioned at approximately 5 km intervals and at the finish line. Results are recorded using both gun timing and chip timing, with timing chips integrated into the race bibs. All participants who complete the race receive a medal with a ribbon. The event is open to runners aged 17 and older, with various age categories ranging from senior to veterans over 80. Participants are advised that road running shoes or trainers are suitable, but spikes are not permitted due to gravel sections on the course.
