Flying Squirrel Ten Miler, Asheville NC
The Flying Squirrel Ten Miler is a 10 mile road race in Asheville organized by Jus' Running and presented as its third annual edition. The course is a lollipop style route that is about 85% paved, with roughly miles 5 through 6.5 on gravel along Patton Mountain Road. The first and last ~0.75 miles are relatively flat while the middle of the course features mostly gradual grades with a few short steep sections. The route gains about 1,476 feet and then loses the same amount, with start and finish listed at 2,162 feet above sea level and a maximum elevation near 3,063 feet.
A few roads near the start and finish will be closed to traffic; other roads remain open and course marshals will direct runners. The race is professionally chip timed and registration includes a custom Flying Squirrel shirt, a custom race bib, coupons and giveaways, and post race food and beverages including Subway sandwiches, Duck Donuts, and fruit. The finish zone is adjacent to local businesses within a short walk and hosts post race vendors.
Awards include a $1,200 cash purse for top overall finishers, Hoka shoe prizes for top three overall, masters and age group awards, and a special award for the first male and female to the first water stop at mile 2.3.
