Trail Running in Upper Bidwell Park
The Fleet Feet Fall Classic Trail events take place in Upper Bidwell Park, utilizing a variety of single-track trails on the south side of the park. Participants navigate terrain including Annies Trail, J-Ford, and the Yahi trail, featuring a creek crossing and sections near the Bidwell Golf Course.
The event offers two distinct formats:
- Fall Classic Half Marathon: This 13.1-mile trail race involves a significant climb with 1,600 feet of elevation gain in the first half of the course. Runners must pass through two specific checkpoints—10 Mile House and the Ecological Preserve—to have their bibs stamped for award eligibility. The second half of the course is primarily downhill.
- 4 Mile Endurance Challenge: This is a backyard-style endurance event held on a 4-mile loop. Participants must complete the loop within 60 minutes to continue to the next round. A new round starts at the top of every hour for a maximum of eight hours, totaling approximately 32 miles. The direction of the loop reverses every other lap. If multiple runners remain for the eighth hour, it becomes a foot race to the finish.
This event is cup-less to reduce waste; participants should carry their own hydration vessels. Aid stations are positioned along the courses, providing water, electrolytes, and nutrition. Registered participants receive a breakfast burrito and a discount on additional food at the local golf course grill. A portion of the proceeds supports local trail maintenance and fire academy cadets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
