The course is a double out and back on a measured forest trail. Runners encounter limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. The route is mostly single-track, very rocky, and has no long hills.

Aid stations and time limits vary by distance. The 101K uses 15 aid stations, with 11 fully stocked and four water-only stations; spacing is roughly 3.5 to 5 miles. The 50K has seven aid stations; the 25K has three. Time limits are listed per distance, including a 24-hour limit for the 101K and 24-hour limit for the 50K. Shorter races have shorter time limits.
Logistics include two packet pickup opportunities, with a Friday evening packet pickup and pre-race spaghetti dinner offering vegetarian and gluten-free options, and an early Saturday pickup before the race. Drop bags are allowed only for the 50K and 101K and should be about shoebox size; designated drop locations are provided. Crew access is permitted for the 50K and 101K at specific aid points.
Complimentary race photos are provided. Campsites with and without electricity and showers are available near the start; motels are located in Independence roughly 7 miles from the venue. Race rules emphasize no littering, no course stashing, notifying aid stations if dropping out, and keeping animals leashed; violations may lead to disqualification.
