Event Format

The Flag City Backyard Ultra is a last-person-standing race held at the Findlay Reservoir. Participants must complete a 4.3-mile loop every hour. Each new lap begins on the hour with a whistle. The event continues until only one runner completes a loop alone; all other participants are recorded as DNF.

Course Information

The course is a simple loop around the reservoir with zero elevation gain, mud, or roots. It is designed with no shortcuts and is difficult to get lost on.

Race Logistics

This is a self-supported race. No food, drink, or supplies are provided during the event. Participants must bring all necessary gear, including a headlamp. The event features professional timing by Mike Melton, who also times Big’s Backyard Ultra. All runners receive an ankle tag and a bib tag for tracking, with live results available online and the entire event streamed.

Camping is permitted at the site the night before the race, with porta-johns available (no running water). Parking is available in the grass at the base of the reservoir. Vehicles may drive to the top for drop-off only.

Registration & Policies

Registration costs $45, increasing to $55 on April 1. All runners receive a technical shirt. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason. After expenses, any remaining funds are donated to Habitat for Humanity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
