4th of July Celebration in Bryson City
The Firecracker 5K/10K is an annual running event held on Independence Day in Bryson City, North Carolina. Organized by the Rotary Club of Bryson City, this race marks its 37th year. The event features two primary distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
The course starts and finishes within the historic center of Bryson City. Participants run through the Deep Creek Community, which serves as a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The race location is at Riverfront Park, situated on Mitchell Street behind the Swain County Clerk of Court building.
Participants who register by June 10th are provided with a commemorative race shirt. The event is part of a larger community celebration, followed by the local Freedom Festival. This festival includes various activities throughout the day, such as a train ride, waterfall hikes, and whitewater rafting options, concluding with a fireworks display in the evening.
Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, including a special challenge trophy for those who surpass the previous year's fastest times. Medals are also awarded to the top three finishers in various age categories, ranging from under 9 to over 80 years old. Onsite registration and packet pick-up take place on July 3rd at BC Outdoors on Main Street and on the morning of the race at the event site.
