The Firecracker 5K takes place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Bryson City, North Carolina. The Rotary Club of Bryson City hosts the 36th annual race. The course starts and finishes in the historic town of Bryson City and meanders through the Deep Creek Community, a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The race is held at Riverside / Riverfront Park, 101 Mitchell Street, behind the Swain County Clerk of Court building. The running event is followed by the Freedom Festival, which includes all-day activities and fireworks at night. Optional local activities mentioned with the event include whitewater rafting, a train ride, and waterfall hikes.
Logistics and awards
Registration opens April 1, 2026, with an entry fee listed at $42. Registrations made by June 10 receive a commemorative race shirt; later registrations may not receive the requested size. Onsite registration and packet pick-up are available the day before at BC Outdoors, 169 Main Street, Bryson City, and on race day at 101 Mitchell Street. Awards include trophies for overall male and female winners, a challenge trophy related to the 2024 overall winners, and medals for the top three male and female finishers in age groups from 9 and under through 80 and above.
