Fireball Classic 5K and Kid's Mile - Knoxville
The Fireball Classic includes two events held on Neyland Drive in Knoxville: a 5K run and a Kid's Mile for children age 12 and under. The 5K course begins in the eastbound lane of Neyland Drive in front of the G-10 parking lot, continues outward and returns in the westbound lane, finishing near Neyland Stadium. The Kid's Mile is an out-and-back on Neyland Drive.
Packet pickup is offered before race day at The Long Run, 2452 Sutherland Avenue, and on race day in the pavilion between the G-10 Parking Garage and the Tickle Engineering Building. Adult shirts are gender-specific tank tops; kids receive a shirt and a finisher's medal. Shirt orders are placed early in June and sizes may be exchanged after the race if supplies remain.
Awards are given to top overall finishers, top Masters, Grandmasters, Senior Grandmasters by gender, top three in each age group, and overall Clydesdale and Athena categories. Awards will not be mailed and are available for pickup at The Long Run. All children who finish the Kid's Mile receive a finisher's medal.
The event is included in the club team and Grand Prix program; to earn Grand Prix points participants must be members of the Knoxville Track Club and volunteer at least three KTC races during the year. Post-race refreshments are provided in the event tent. Roller blades, strollers, bicycles, and dogs are not allowed on the course; the 5K course closes after 1 hour and 15 minutes and the use of headphones is discouraged.
