Fellowship of the Idiots 19.7-Mile Run

The Fellowship of the Idiots 19.7-Mile Run takes place March 21, 2026 in Albemarle, North Carolina. It is a non timed, non competitive 19.7 mile run that starts and finishes at the Stanly County Family YMCA and reaches the summit of Morrow Mountain. The course includes hills and sunrise views and is organized by the Uwharrie Brewing Running Club.

The event uses a rolling start format with a required finish cutoff established by organizers. Completion of the full 19.7 mile course is required to receive the traditional Fellowship of the Idiot ringer shirt. Returning participants may register at no cost; donations are encouraged to help cover police and sheriff support, emergency medical services, food, permits, bibs, insurance, and pavilion rental. New participants pay a registration fee of $19.70 which helps cover the official FOTI shirt and event expenses.

Distances and options:

  • 19.7 miles complete course qualifies for the traditional FOTI shirt
  • 12 miles turn at Valley Drive and Morrow Mountain Road
  • 14+ miles turn at the front gate of Morrow Mountain State Park

Aid stations are located at several approximate mile markers and supply mostly water with some snacks; Gatorade and gels are available at key locations. The Stanly County Amateur Radio Club will be on course for assistance. This is an open course with traffic; participants are advised to carry water, food, lights, and reflective gear and to bring a headlamp. Bathrooms and showers are available at the YMCA and parking is available in YMCA lots and nearby streets. Packet pick up is offered at Uwharrie Brewing and at the YMCA pavilion.
