Turkey Can Run
The Turkey Can Run is an annual 5K race hosted by First Baptist Church Jefferson to benefit the FBC Jefferson Food Bank. The event is listed as the 18th Annual edition and takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026. The food bank assists hundreds of Jackson County families each year, and the race supports that ongoing mission.
The event is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier and is described as the largest 5K in Jackson County. Entry is open to anyone and requires an entry fee of $15 plus a donation of 15 canned food items. For runners who register and pay by November 20, race number and t-shirt pickup is available in advance from Monday, November 23 to Wednesday, November 25 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the church fellowship hall; canned goods may also be dropped off at that time.
On race day, church parking lots are reserved to provide distancing and are not available for general parking. Participants may park at Jefferson High School, 575 Washington St, which is within walking distance; there is no shuttle service. Receptacles for canned food donations will be available in the high school parking lot. Race day registration is not available due to increased turnout. An awards ceremony follows the race; awards can be picked up at the church office, 76 Institute St, beginning Monday, November 30 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Bottled water is provided before and after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
