Falmouth Triathlon: The Seal
Falmouth Triathlon, labelled The Seal, takes place at Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, TR11 4PA, Cornwall. The swim uses the blue flag rated beach with generally calm water and includes an Australian exit after the first swim loop. Wetsuits are mandatory; shortie or full body wetsuits are permitted.
There are two race distances:
- Little Seal (Super Sprint): 400 m swim, 9.7 km bike, 2.4 km run
- Big Seal (Sprint): 750 m swim, 18 km bike, 4.8 km run
The bike courses use closed road sections along Cliff Rd with spectators noted along the route. The Big Seal bike is four loops and the Little Seal bike is two loops. Run and bike routes pass around Pendennis Point and offer coastal views; seals may be visible offshore. All competitors receive a medal on completion.
The event forms part of the Cornish Tri Series where overall standings use a best of results approach plus a volunteering requirement for series awards. Age groups include Open (17-39 yrs), Vet (40-49 yrs), Super Vet (50-59 yrs), Vintage (60-69 yrs), and Super Vintage (70+). Junior events are scheduled in the afternoon as a separate programme.
