Fall Foliage Adventure Race
The Fall Foliage Adventure Race is an multi-sport orienteering event held in and around Jamestown, Virginia. Participants navigate an adventurous course using a map and compass to locate checkpoints in a scavenger hunt style format. The event takes place in a historic region, passing through various conservancies, historical sites, and parks.
Participants can choose between two primary race durations:
- 5-hour Race: Includes estimated distances of 6+ miles of paddling, 7+ miles of trekking, and 9+ miles of biking on gravel and paved surfaces.
- 24-hour Race: Includes estimated distances of 15+ miles of paddling, 25+ miles of trekking, and 60+ miles of biking.
The 24-hour race is part of the Adventure Race World Series (ARWS) and both distances are USARA-sanctioned events. The terrain in this region does not feature significant elevation or steep climbs. Registration is open to soloists and teams of two, three, or four people across male, female, mixed, and family divisions.
The event provides canoes or kayaks, paddles, lifejackets, and topographic race maps. Participants are required to bring their own mountain bike, helmet, and safety gear. The race follows a "Leave No Trace" ethic and requires teams to stay within 100 feet of each other at all times. Use of GPS or smart devices for navigation is prohibited.
