Fairhaven Turkey Trot
The Fairhaven Turkey Trot is a community 5K run or walk held on Thanksgiving morning in Fairhaven Center, Massachusetts. The event raises funds and collects nonperishable food items to support Shepherd's Pantry and other food stability programs on the Southcoast.
The course starts and finishes at Cushman Park on Green Street and follows an out and back route to Fort Phoenix. Runners and walkers proceed down Green Street to Fort Phoenix, continue up Fort Street past the marina and a water stop, then along Main Street and Bridge Street to Mulberry Street before returning to the Cushman Park track. Fairhaven Police staff major intersections while volunteers marshal minor crossings; the route is subject to change.
Organizers report that since 2010 the event has raised over $130,000 and has collected hundreds of pounds of canned goods. Last year participants and families donated more than 2,000 pounds of nonperishable items. Registration is tiered by date with published fees for different registration periods, and registration and bib pickup are available both the day before and the day of the race at 56 Bridge Street in Fairhaven. Cash, card, and checks are accepted for registrations. Sponsors help offset costs for items such as shirts, bibs, and police details so that funds raised support community partners.
